Why Social Work?
One of my very favorite quotes, by author Susannah Conway, says, “I believe that by being the best and most healed version of ourselves we can truly make a difference in the world.” I really believe this: we are able to do the most good in the world by first refining ourselves. So, I have and continue to do this work. Now, I want to take what to me feels like the next step. I want to also help others to heal themselves as well. I chose to do this through social work because I think in order to really help people we must consistently acknowledged how overlapping systems impact a person’s life. I feel that an individual cannot be truly helped to heal without taking into account their systemic history and reality. I believe that the training that I receive through the GCSW will truly help me to do this.
