Why social work?

I think that social work definitely found me. My upbringing, environment, and culture surrounded me with values that align with this amazing profession: social justice, advocacy, family, community, and fellowship. I first found my way into social work through volunteering at a young age and later, as an adult, continuing this spirit of service. Soon enough, I realized that my passions could actually become a career. My most recent experiences before I entered the GCSW include working with underserved youth in the greater Houston area through college access counseling, one-on-one mentoring, and career skills coaching. I look forward to applying my personal and professional experiences with my  GCSW education so that I can serve this wonderful city and state through community and youth-oriented social work.
